What is the largest numerical ring gear I can put in my case.  Car is equiped with a 2:56.  1968 Tempest, with OHC.

Thanks for the help.  Would like to takes her to the track, and would like too go prepared.  4 barrel OHC - stock all the way.  3 speed manual backs up the six.

Thanks!

Assuming the rearend is the 8.2" 10-bolt, you can put just about any gear in it you want but you must change the carrier to match. I believe the changeover point is 3.08 and higher numerically. I checked the Summit website and they list Richmond Gear ring and pinion sets for "3" series carriers from 3.08 to 5.13 and "4" series gears in 4.10 and 4.56. Keep in mind that factory gears will only interchange within the same series.

Thanks - I could not remember if a 3:23 would work or not.  Thanks.

Bet you get some gas mileage with that set up. I'm surpised this car is geared so high.
