I am in the process of restoring a '69 GTO.  It is not a Judge, and the VIN states that it came with a YS code 350hp 400 engine from the factory.  The numbers do not match indicating a non-original engine.  In fact the engine is a '70 YS code 350hp 400 engine, but the car and engine have Ram Air equipment such as louvered hood scoops connected via cable down to "Ram Air" labeled bracket under the dash.  I need to decode the VIN again to confirm, but I am pretty certain it's not a factory Ram Air equipped car.

Was this dealer or owner installed upgrade?  The engine has #13 heads, are these "Ram Air" heads, perhaps part of the Ram Air upgrade package?  It's my understanding that Ram Air GTO engines produced "366 horsepower."  Was my engine converted to a 366 hp engine at one time?  Is this Ram Air III or IV or what?
1969 GTO, YS code 400, 350hp/445 ft lbs of torque (stock specs), LT headers, H-pipe, 750 Holley 4160, Ignitor II ignition.  Complete Painless wiring.

The VIN doesn't tell you about the engine. The only way to see how the car was originally equipped is to get the Pontiac Historical Society packet. I think they're $35. In a nutshell, #13 heads were used in 1970 on non-ram air cars. The 1969 RAIV heads are #722, rare and expensive these days. Ames Performance was going to start producing them again, but I don't know if they ever did. RAIV was a factory option in '69. Since it has the underdash control, you may find that it was indeed a ram air car. That or someone added it later...

There are many dif types of Ram Air heads through several years. A good source to track the various numbers is on the site wallaceracing.com. Go to this site and scroll down the left side of the page and you will find cylinder head codes and click on it. This is the most complete list for poncho heads I have found on the web. They have search codes and some fun automotive calculators there as well. Check them out.
