I have 69 gto with a 400 engine. The lower end of engine was rebuilt it has a new cam and lifters .This is the 3rd set of lifters i put in the engine .This time with a crane cam kit. The valve train is guiet untill it gets hot. I thought it might be the rockers. They were roller rockers .So i put a new set of stock rockers on it. Now it is worse than before, noisy when hot or cold. I was thinking it might be the vale springs? The heads are 670's and looked like new,but i don't know what has been done to them they came on the engine when i bought the car .I ajusted the valves with both vales closed till no lash then 1/2 turn and then i tried 1 turn , I tried ajusting them cold and then hot nothing works ! Does anybody know something about this problem ? Jack

Are you getting oil through the push rods?

If it's an aftermarket cam, you might need to put adjustable rockers on it.

Are you sure the cam is lining up with the lifters right? Is it degreed or set at factory specs? Lately, some parts suppliers have been selling Chevy lifters thinking they are the same as Pontiacs - which they are not. Brazil

It has a crane cam kit in it # 105072 454 lift it had over 500 lift com cam in it. It has one of those cam gears you can set 3 different ways a couple of degreeds before or after or factory .I left it where it was because it has high dome pistons in it.I was afraid the valves might hit the pistons it ran good . I was thinking the valve springs might not be right for the cam ?

Which rocker arm studs are in it. If they are stockers you should replace them so the valves will be adjustable. If they are the correct studs it sounds like you are tightening them down to much. Half turn down should down the trick. I set mine at a quarter turn.

It has screw in rocker arm studs and they are adjustable. One thing i did see was when i put the stock rockers and nuts on and ajusted them that some of the nuts bottomed out and the rockers were loose on 2 of them .I checked the valve train geometry and it was right the rockers were hitting in the center of the valves. When i measured the springs they were much higher than stock. Could someone maybe put chevy springs in it ?

If you've got a mic and dial caliper, I'd check the diamter of the lifters measured against the lifter bores. Chevy lifter diameters are different than Pontiac. It might be that someone put longer valves in and had the seats machined to achieve more lift capability. Most aftermarket manufacturers will code thier springs, either with color or numbers. You also might check the seat spring pressures at installed height. If they are too weak, that might cause some of the noise you've been hearing.

I know the valve spring installed height is probable wrong but i don't know what springs are in it so I don't know what the height would be for them ,but it is way off from stock ! I'm going to order crane springs that match the cam kit . It has duel springs in it and the spring covers are missing . Installed height pressure is probable wrong. I don't know if 67 valves are longer than 69's or not ? They are 670 heads. I don't know who did the head work !
