This engine was our first of several crate engines to be produced. This engine is to represent what guys can hope to get with just bolt together items at home:
4.22 bore x 4.250 stroke (about 480 inches) RAV heads McCarty racing (mild port job $2500 option) RAV as cast street tunnel ram & RAV as cast single street intake(no porting) Twin Holley street 750 Holleys by Tom Vaught & single 1150 dominator RAV street one piece 2 inch street headers OEM Pontiac block 1975 Roller street/strip cam set up (stock diameter reg cam bearings) Crower Mechanical Roller lifters Harlan Sharp stud mounted rockers (1.65 ratio no stud girdle) Street Strip valve springs (like all the BBC guys use) Ross pistons no lightening Standard Eagle Rods Standard Eagle Crank Mallory Unilite street distributor 10W30 break in oil Regular Milodon steel oil pan no scraper, no crank tray SD performance mega brace
739HP@6800/630TQ@5000
This engine as 0.040 quench and only 10 to one compression. It also has unported intakes. We used no evacuation system just breather caps. We only got 7 good pulls and the dyno broke. This dyno sheet was with 80 jets(13 to one), we went to 77(14 to one) and it was too lean. Tom was pretty close. Maybe a few more ponies with 78 or 79s
As you can see by the BSFC numbers at 6800 that is where we lost the street valve springs, so we think it will make tons more power with a bit more valve spring
We will probably port the intake a bit, zero deck the block and bump compression to 11.5 to one, scraper, crank tray, more valve spring

How about an option for pistons to bring up the compression to 13:1-15:1

I'm curious.,. what is the VE on that engine. At what Rev's does it approach 100% and more, and what Rev's does it fall below 100% again.

It would have to be aluminum.

OK.,. $2500 for a "mild" port job is more than double the going rate. I thought the heads were $2500, as the pic showed.,. my oops

We put this together with 0.040 in the hole. Since this is street engine we wanted to keep it low. Our next go around we will bump to 11.5 which is still viable for a street engine. After that we will prepare as the standard bracket engine with a bit more technology, but relatively low cost.

This engine was mostly limited by valve spring. We didnt install the hat on the top. They dyno broke 3 times so we only got 7 pulls.

Well these are ported for the street keeping the ports as small as possible. The ports got kind of big at the flange making them look bigger than they really are because we were experimenting with flow. Believe it or not making the port bigger at the pushrod tube didnt improve flow. They are much smaller down the intake ports.
Yes the heads are $2500 for the castings with guides and pushrod tubes, or we also have a head porters head for moving valve location and CNC porting programs. This set of heads have a $2500 port job via BES Racing. Some guys in the heads up arena pay upwards of $12k. We have a set of those under development currently for a heads up 620 cubic inch RAV.
