Heres a car I plan to buy real soon. Because I have a '69 Grand Prix, I got asked if I want it when they dragged it from it's resting place in some sort of meth lab compound, LOL. Anyway I was at work and a dude walks up and asks if I'm interested. I told him I'd like to see it, and today it was out by the road so I snapped some pics for y'all. When I see that guy again, I'll try to make the deal for $400 or so. No title. He said it was a burnout machine when parked.

I see a bunch of patch metal I need plus fenders, bucket seats and console, tilt column, a 400 with 7K3 heads, and a TH400 that I could make use of. Then theres a decent front bumper, nice grille, a set of Rally IIs, and boatload of moldings that I can't.

Peek around it- should I score it or leave it lie?

For 400$ IDJ, it would be worth the parts you could get off it.. You'd spend that 400$ quickly buying them separate..

Got it for $450! Tuff, email me what you want. Anybody else need something? I want to fire the engine up before I pull it, and I gotta figure out how to get this thing stashed.

Hey Knights, I got it home today and spent a couple hours under the hood with a shop vac. No pics but I got some numbers. I still need the date code on the block, I reckon. How do I tell if this is "numbers matching"? The old car wasn't in too bad of shape when it got parked, all the little stuff on top of the engine is there. Those seats are gonna look good re-covered, in my purple car.

Heres some numbers, anybody wanna play with them? I gotta go get my pizza so I can drive the shiny one on a Sat nite

Block 481988  0187228 YS Heads 7K3

carb 7042264 (info sticker says it has CCS)

Is this the stock 400 you think?

I'll research later myself, I'm sure. I also got a pair of good ol sport mirrors out of the deal. Plus a instrument cluster and bezel, trans and vac lines, all off a Chevy truck, just laying in the seat. I gotta get the trunk open without a key, for my next trick. People hide goodies in trunks sometimes. Ah, the fun of crawling all over a fresh find. Love that.

Ah, Pman thats just what I figured, thank you buddy.

Looks like IT. I'm kind of excited about maybe havin something that runs on normal pump gas. I could drive my junk a lot more if I used that one. Wonder what I could get for my 455?

Now to scarf supper and read a day's worth of posts

Hey Pman that should be one of the good 988 blocks, right? Before the crummy main webs or whatever?

Dang this is good pie!

Yup, same block casting that I'm using for the 406 build. They kept building them until late 74 or early 75. Mine is a Sept or Oct 1974 cast for use in 75. You want a set of 6H heads to bring your 455 down to 7.6:1cr? I have a set that I'll send to you for the price of shipping, no valves. I had to use the valves to rebuild my 5C-8's. You'd be able to run it on any gas from any station then, not sure the power would be too great though!

Great to know on the block. Man I hope it is unbusted and standard bore, that would make me damn happy to finally have a decent 400 block.

Steve, I have a set of 4X somethings all punked out, right here in the garage leftover from my 400 abortion. Got some others too, but those are nice. I need to get the rest of the ID and find out the cc's on them. I'm thinking the existing 7K3s (big valve, screw-in I believe, need rest of that code too) will be great with stock type pistons and just the slight squeeze bump from the inevitable overbore would be fine. Mild, but fine. If I decide to supercharge it, I'll holler about those 6Hs. I could even go with cast exhaust manifolds (and avoid drilling 7K3 end holes) now that I have some that fit! Lots of options at this point, and that rocks.

This is an early 72 car (around 21,000th out of 91 thousand total), it still has 14" rims and a 140 speedo.

Now I just need a buyer for the grille, header, and front bumper, and oh yeah ... ANYTHING ELSE ANYBODY NEEDS, parts wise! How about Y'ALL?
