There has been some crazy numbers for cars that are just not worth it in my eye's. I guess when you have hundreds of thousands in the bank, life looks different through your eye's. A 62 vette for $357,500 with a LS3 engine and a tremec 5 speed....come on now.

Did you see it didn't sell? Went up to 200K, but was reserved. From what I saw on discovery channel it cost a million to build it. The Pontiacs did not go for what they were worth, imo...

Today I went to another auction that was in town. More realistic atmosphere. I'll start a new thread and post some pics.

I agree with you about the crazy numbers for cars that just do not seem worth it, mb68bird. I loved it when the auctioneer said he would take the Bonneville Convertible over that overpriced car that sold before it. I honestly cannot remember what it was. Some convertible, I think a desoto. I was too busy drooling over the Bonneville. Will be looking forward to the pics of the local auction you post.

Did you guys catch the trivia question about Pontiacs? it was asked what was and what made the "ventura"option on Pontiacs? what a laugh! they didn't even reference the Catalina as the base model for the ventura option!!! IMO, the B.J. auction celebrates the automobile as a whole, and provides a lot of eye candy. However, I'm very sure some of the sellers and consigners were tearing their hair out at the drop of the gavel!!!! no reserve? sheeesh! they frequent a phrase "well-bought"! what they mean is "that car just got stolen"! maybe that's why there aren't too many Pontiacs in the mix, we're too street smart for that crappola! and like I said before about my observations to the auction "never, ever, ever drink alcohol when making a bid, too many clouded judgments IMO!!!

A little inside info. Much of you see on TV at B.J. is planned and scripted. You need to go there in person to really see the cars and whats going on. When they say that someone put $100,000 into the restoration is total B.S. and a MSRP cost. The people who have been working on these cars for years know it.

Got that right MB68! I am not a hater, but I raise the b.s. flag as soon as I smell it, the thing I hate is the theatrics involved like you said (scripted) I have been to an auction and a dude sold a NIKEY" camaro. There was no television, no fan fair, and only several people bid on the car, the vehicle was sold for a above reserve price, and everyone was happy and that little 1st gen F-body was sold at a reasonable market price not a hyped up 80k pile of ca,ca..
