I have a 1969 th350 trans in my 69 lemans.Code says is for a 69 350 2 bbl.I need to replace the torque converter due to one of the mounting pads being striped out.I see there are alot of converters that say they fit a th350,but there are different sizes like 12",12 1/2",13" ect. Also with bolt only and nut and bolt installation. My current is bolt only. Most say fit GM,chevy. Not too many say fit pontiac. Are these a universal fit with the exception of bolt diameter?Mine is 10 3/4.I think I will stay with stock stall unless you can convince me otherwise.400 with edel.alum 72cc heads, voodoo 262/268 cam,750 holley, rare  2 1/2" headers 2 1/2" X over pipes,336 posi.Thanks.

YOu are mostly correct. Torque converters come with two different mounting points, 10 3/4 and 11 1/2 (I think). Some, not all, flexplates are drilled for both bolt patterns. The smaller diameter conv usually means higher stall, the larger ones are mostly for towing/mostly stock. You should be able to drill and helicoil the mounting pad. Most are 3/8-16. But if you need, I have a TCI 241000 10" 2400 stall that would work very well with your combo. $100 plus shipping, probably about $40-50. Non-lockup TH350 and TH400 are the same. This one has the nut and bolt type pad.

the transtar torque coverter numbers is a

GM1A
12.5” diameter 1.703” hub pilot
3 Pads
(Uses Only a Bolt)
30 splines
Approx. Stall 1400- 1600
Buick, Pontiac, Olds

be sure NOT to get a GM1.. as that is a variable pitch stator and will NOT work in your transmission..

there is also a

GM3
13” diameter  1.703” hub pilot
3 Pads
30 splines
Approx. Stall 1300- 1500
3 Rows of Ribs

here is the front of a GM3

and the back of a gm3..
