my engine(455 sleeper) will be ready for startup sometime before christmas.
because of holliday expense i cant get my driveshaft until after 1st of year.
i would like to start it up (cant wait).
is it safe to start without driveshaft?, if i put the yoke in and leave in park?
ps what is the least amount of trans fluid(empty turbo 400) i can use for startup?
i dont want to waste it when i pull the yoke out after cam breakin.
thanks

Yes, you can start your engine if you keep the tranny in Park (With yoke installed)
The oil drains into the pan, when you shut the engine off.,. you will only get a small dribble of fluid, when you pull the yoke.

4-quarts to start and another 3 after start, I think it holds about 9 with a stock pan more with a deep pan.

thanks, i will use 4qts and a yoke for startup, hopefully by christmas weekend.
i still have to wire the kickdown to the turbo 400, trans cooler and lines, fuel lines, and wire the choke and coil.
ps i have some short (about 18") manifold to ground pieces of ex pipe i am planning on installing for cam break in. this is safe to keep from overheating the ex manifold, isnt it?

th 350 takes 9 qts, th400 will take 12 to fill. i have run trannys through the gears with just a yoke. keep an eye on it. and jack the back of the car up higher when you install the drive shaft.

after your done braking it in put some sort of cap over the exhaust pipe. you don't want the red hot valves to cool too fast. don't know what the temp is where your at

yes but only at low speed. you will have no way to stop the yoke from turning to put it back in park!

Yes, but don't take it out of park, even in neutral that tranny will spin the driveshaft to 15-20 mph.. I use that neutral spinning action to adjust my rear brakes...

i would clamp some mufflers on the pipes so you can hear whats going on inside the motor! you could have somthing bad going on and not know it till it locked up.

had that happen one time with a friend that forgot to torq the rod bolts. it was only a sb chevy no big loss!
