Regular 400 or 455 pistons won't work, you need ones designed with the correct wrist pin height for that stroke and rod combination. Best bet is to buy a complete balanced rotoating assembly from Butler's, Kaufmann's or Eagle.

I think you may get better answers if you provide more information. What exactly are you going for? What exactly do you have for pistons already? Compression height? Has the block had any machine work done? Do you care about quench?

Bore x bore x stroke x # of cylinders x .7854= ***

Your going to have to get a special piston made. Cost prohibited. Stock Pontiac rod is 6.625 long. I have an Ohio Crankshaft 4.25 stroke, 6.8" rod (2.2 pin dia) and .035 over bore 455. And you need to remember that 400 has a 3" main and 455 has a 3.25" main. BBC also has a 3" main, but the cranks are NOT interchangeable between and Chevy and Pontiac.
