At what point does it make sense to ditch the 10 bolt (8.5) and go with a 12 or Ford 9"? If I'm rebuilding my pretty much stock 340 hp '68 400 to mild street/strip level, is it time to ditch the 10 bolt? I don't have posi so that's my biggest reason for posting this topic. Is it really worth keeping and installing posi, it also has drum brakes. I'm having a difficult time finding a 12 bolt, don't have $3000+ for a new one. I do have a line on a complete Ford 9" with disc brakes but I don't know anything about what 9" fits with my Bird.

Your 8.5" will hold up for a long time, until you start gluing the power down with wide sticky tires.,.

If you read the article that TUFF posted it's really up to you.
If I were you I'd go for the Ford 9". If it's in your budget?
Like Tuff said the 8.5" will hold up if done right for awhile.
I've seen them all have their breaking points. Good Luck.

Great thanks! I like the idea of the 12 bolt and I have been looking for one for a while, I guess I'll have to be more patient but I'm really getting tired of the 1 leger, ready to do disc brakes and new suspention too so somethings gotta change. Thanks again Guy's!
