My 72 lemans brakes are acting up. The pedal goes almost all the way down, but brakes ok. The weird part: sometimes the pedal stiffens like when the motor cuts off, but its still running. 350 9.0:1 comp maybe 450 miles on motor. Would the brake booster have anything to do with it?

unplug booster and plug vacuumdrive car carefully a short distance in front of the house or find a vacant road or parking lot. if brakes and pedal remain consistent your booster is likely bad.also try adjusting rear brakes if they are loose.
along with what bob said..there should be a black fuel filter looking thing in the vacuum hose to the booster.. it's actually a carbon canister to absorb fuel vapors to prevent them from ruining the power brake booster diaphragm...Dorman 80195brake booster diagnostics training article..http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/brake05.pdfbrake master cylinder diagnosstics training articlehttp://www.autoshop101.com/forms/brake02.pdf
