Looking for recommendations on cam selection.
68 Firebird
350 with 72cc #17 heads
3.42 rear gears (do not want to change either)
2000RPm stall
Performer RPM intake
350TH tranny
600cfm Carb
1.52 roller tip rockers
Dougs longtubes, X-pipe and Flowmasters

The tech guy at Comp recommended the the XE262, just curious on the thoughts on those on here. It's just a fun street car that I'm looking for a bit more power out of.

Thanks guys

hi

it depends where you want your power. if your eng is .030" over you have around 9.1 compression. you can easily run both. the bigger cam will haVE A SLIGHTLY LOWER RPM RANGE. FOR MAX performance from your set up i would install the xe268 then advance it 2 degrees with an adjustable timing chain set. do not buy conp lifters, buy crane high rev or howards etc.

what cam is in it now?

how do you want your performance to be different?

Cam Now is a Speed Pro cam. Specs are: Basic Rpm: 1500-4000 Adv Dur. Int/Exh: 278/288
Dur @ .050 Int/Exh: 204/214 Lobe Sep. 110 Valve Lift Int/Exh: 420/443

Do you mean that the larger cam will have a slightly HIGHER RPM band? THe XE262 is advertised as 1300-5500 and the XE268 is 1600-5800

The motor is .030 over and I think with the 72cc heads it is probably 9:1 compression.

yes the 268 has a higher overall operating range. advancing the cam will lower around 200 rpm.

+1 shy the 268 should have a loppey idle and work good with your stall and gears providing you have enough compression.
