Hi
I bought a 70-75 formula hood that has had a hole cut in for the 70-76 shaker.
Is it possible to use a 77-79 shaker and base from a pontiac 400 trans am with this hood or will the shaker and hole not line up?
Iv got a 72 pontiac 350 firebird.
Thanks

the hole should be in the same location providing it was cut for the same type of motor.

i know there are different height shakers depending on the type of motor. only one way to find out! let us know how it fits.

The later model shaker should fit though I think it was a bit longer and wider than the earlier version and the hole was enlarged to fit accordingly.
That said, I think putting on a scoop with the sharper angles will not work with the more rounded lines of the earlier formula scoops.
check out"Corvette Summer" film clips on black trans am that was featured in the movie.

I think the 77-79 shaker would look best as it doesn't seem to sit as tall as the earlier ones.
Providing its from a pontiac engine, can later model drop bases be used with earlier shakers and vice versa?

I don't know if your hole will line up (you can carefully remove the rivets to seperate the top and bottom halves then modify the base as needed and re-attach) but it seems the question is really if late and early scoops will fit thru the same hole, right? This is a late shaker in an early hole, it fit with a little room to shake. I know its on a Ventura but the hood is '74 GTO and the scoop is '78 Trans Am. The GTOs came with Chevy 350s but I don't think they made a different shaker just for a one year car.

It was the Pontiac 350, I was wrong. Sorry. Only one engine was available from the factory in '74 GTOs. Should have left out my assumption. The only one I ever saw had a mouse, I checked and it looked original so the car must have been a clone. My Ventura had a 307, maybe thats what threw me.
