I stay away from reinforced fillers simply due to the fact that in all my experience, I have never dug any out that didn't have rust under it. My opinion aside, you have it correct.I have had good long lasting results using 3M panel bonding adhesive on bare steel over a flanged seam at the quarter to roof joint, as a base for filler. This keeps the filler thickness down, and provides a strong and stable epoxy base thats stuck to the bare steel.My recommendation: If using quality filler, yes eliminate the stranded stuff.
