I read the informative sticky on this subject, and now know that the engine color should be GM Corporate blue. My question is the valve covers. I bought my 78 W72 Trans Am new, so I know the existing engine color came from the factory, on my engine the valve covers are a light blue, the block a slightly darker medium blue. Is this normal? I am having the car restored and want to get it right.
thanks in advance for any help.

If the untouched original engine has different shades of a similar color on it, probably what you are seeing is normal batch-to-batch variation of the same color standard. I don't know if the engine castings and sheetmetal were painted seperately or fully assembled. A certain amount of variation in fading could also be expected on the different pieces even if it was sprayed all at once.

A 1978 W72 400 in a Trans Am would have had FACTORY INSTALLED chrome valve covers.
