I'm looking to set up my 70 with a Pypes 3"full exhaust system. Does anyone have any experience trying to install one of these kits? They indicate that they come with all hardware and are designed for the home install. I know that their 3" wont fit with rear valence splitters but that's ok, not an issue. Just curious if this is accurate. Thanks!
Hey Herb, welcome to our forum..I installed the 2 1/2" Pypes SS exhaust in my 71. You'll have to do some cutting and trimming for final fit. They do come with all the hardware you need.A couple of tips..Put it all together on the garage floor first and check for symmetry. I foudn that the "X" cross over was not quite welded square and in one direction, the tail pipes were closer together and the head pipes farther a part and vice-versa when I swapped it around. The cross pipe has an arrow on it for direction of flow but I am not sure how much that means, meaning how much if any, it makes a difference in exhaust flow.Take accurate measurements BEFORE you cut anything i.e.- how far back you need the cross over to be and muffler location.Other than that, my system worked as advertised.
Thanks for the insight! I appreciate it!
Hey Herb, I installed 2.5 inch on my 68 last year. I bought flowmaster tailpipes because they are one piece unlike others where they are multiple and time consuming. For the extra buck, buy stainless steel clamps, nothing worse than having nice stainless steel pipes with rusted clamps in a few months time. Overall everything fit really well, got the 2.5 stainless steel set off ebay that a guy had on his 67 the same as 68-72 but just longer and required back end trimming before the muffler.
I included the link to youtube of my 68 below just copy and paste. Sorry for the so-so vid it was done on a whim. The downpipes and crossover are made by Pypes, mufflers are magnaflow and one piece tailpipes are Flowmaster. I run a Ram Air1V cam. All are 2.5 inch stainless steel.http://youtu.be/a1mGKNON5Hc
So I decide to go with the 3"X pipe with a set of 3" goerlich mufflers for now. Next steps are to swap the ram air 3 manifolds with a set of tuned super comps and tail pipes. If its not quiet enough then I may add a second set of mufflers just to help the surprise factor since I have cut outs. Here's a Youtube address for a video I made contrasting the old and new. Thanks for the advice guys!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgb363050TE&feature=youtu.be
