I'm so psyched. I've been living in Belgium for the last 2 1/2 years and now in only 7 weeks I come back home to the US. I can't wait to get back involved with the total restoration of my 69 Bird. Soon I can post some status pictures. It's been off the road now since fall of 2010. Time to get her back!!
i have a question...off thread.. do they have Belgium waffles there??my mom gave me her griswald oh man.. my brothers friends decided the paddles were like swords.. managed to break the hinge ball off.. so it sits on display at my older sisters house.. i miss that almost as much as i do my former 66 GTO..a few decades back.. almost 3 decades now.. there was a blue 69 firebird sitting in the back of the shop i worked at.. it had like 66,000 miles.. it had been there for like 10 years.. somebody brought it in for a brake job.. and Never picked it up.. i had my 66 GTO at the time.. i had plans on that car.. one day my little sister spotted it.. next think i knew. it was hers.. she had already nabbed the 71 camaro i had purchased for 250 bucks.. i had showed her the camaro.. she went into the wayne.. i always wanted a camaro.. thank you for buying me that car.. she went around behind me for the 69 firebird.. she loved both those cars.. her step son still drives the 71 camaro.. the 69 firebird went to somebody with a big pile of cash in hand after about 15 years of her owning it.. those are a few more things i miss.. my sister is another thing that's gone.. wow. that's been 18 years.. time flys.. next time you ever walk in a watch shop.. when the clerk walks up to help you.. say..YES, Do you have the TIME? see how far they get their wrist up before they realize what you actually ask them.. and where they are..
Yes, they have Belgian waffles here. It's not just a name. They did start here. The dough is very different than American waffles and so it the taste - much sweeter than US waffles.
Stop "waffling" and get on back! Here's wishing you no rodent damage. Show us what you're working with when you get here.
Thanks! I'd be ther in the time it took to fly if I could. I'm done with the waffles.I've already got the engine mounted on a new DSE sub frame. Large disc brake upgrade. Quadralink now in place of the springs and mini tubs to fit some fatter rubber. New trunk floor installed. Next the quarter panels, new floor pans, doors are ready, and fenders need some work. Put the engine back in, rewire and hoses, new interior paint..... um almost there.
Hey that sounds like a Krass and Bernie cartoon ... where one guy builds an engine overnight while the other takes the body from rusted heap to museum piece. Thats after they had the idea at sunset and with the event starting the next morning. We have a 73 bird going through major stuff at the shop, I may post some pics to make you feel better about how much work you're facing. Sounds like a hot build you have going there. So whats the number for "big" brakes this year, is it 15" yet? Ha. I'm seeing 14 and 14.5" going on and 12 & 13" stuff being tossed aside. Heck I recently learned that I can put salvage F-body brakes on my GTP but I'm not sure why I need em!
How were you able to get those things done while overseas? We've been following your progress. Great that you are finally coming home to fully enjoy the project!I'Drive always expounds on the importance of upgrading the brakes, and that's a wise thing - definitely something you don't want to waffle on.
Hey Brazil! Great hearing from you again. The brakes are 13" so I guess they could have been bigger, but big enough for me. I finished the engine before I left and I'm working with someone on the body work so progress is possible albeit slow. As soon as I get back I'll take some pics and post them.Yes, please post pics of the 73! I love that year! God I miss this hobby - it just doesn't exist in Europe.
i know what you mean i can't wait to get some of the other projects out of the shop so i can start on the 69 firebird/trans am project i picked up a few weeks ago!
